Is my silverware sterling or plated?

I have 5 matching pieces of silverware that are visibly tarnished and are not attracted to a magnet of course. The back of them is marked "20th century alloy". Now when I google this term with the word silver the first thing that comes up is sterling silver in wikipedia. The forks look very old is this phrase "20th century alloy" possibly an early term for sterling???
