I somewhat feel like you're telling rather than showing. You came straight out and said that he's half-demon. You don't necessarily have the clarify the race or sub-race of the narrator within the first couple of paragraphs. It could be more realistic for the matter to come up in a conversation or for another character to mention it. Just my opinion, really. I see nothing wrong regarding the the setting establishment, I'm assuming you'll offer a description on the inside or back cover of the novel if you plan to get it published. Overall, well done. Girlfriend issue, opinions?

We were having an argument about her never being on time when I made a comment that she didn't like too much. She tried to get up and walk away/run away, and I grabbed her pants leg to try and stop her. She started to fight me and scream and scratched my upper forearm and I bled a little. Neighbor taking out our shrubs, need an affordable safety fence!?

In the last year our unfriendly (but hadn't been hostile) neighbor has seemed to be going through something which seems to be getting worse and worse. He has never talked to me in 5 years, but one sudden manic moment told me all about how the cops had taken his friend away and now had a restraining order, and how he'd been sick for a year and lost a ton of weight. I never knew anything about him, though tried to say hi and had for years left holiday cards, but all in 1 conversation learned more than I would normally have learned in months. He never talked to me again since (that was 6 months ago) and since then he has had new friends move in/out, had men stopping in front of our house at 3:30am beeping (I could see the man's GPS, so I figure he didn't know the neighbor much since he didn't know where he lived), and recently had his new live-in friend taken out by stretcher unconscious at about 4pm (I'm only guessing drugs, but don't know, but he had told me in that one conversation that his last friend had been drunk and doing drugs the night he was arrested). All of this story is to lead up to why I am more worried that he is getting worse, more unbalanced. His house is very close to our's, and a few days ago he walked onto our lawn while I was home with my baby and pulled out a bunch of our shrubs along our house that my husband had been growing for years. Our neighbor is a cop, and he told us his wife saw him do it, and it makes me think this neighbor is getting more and more unbalanced, and I'm scared, and a new mom, and so nervous to be in our little backyard with my baby. We have a little fence between our yards halfway, but it's only about 3 ft high. We don't have much money but I'm desperate to put in a higher fence! I've been researching putting in our own fence, but we can't afford the put together fences I found online (I called the town hall, and we can have 6ft tall, and can be on the property line, but the man suggested leaving a foot). I have been trying to think of ways to build a fence, or find used lumber, or maybe buying some inexpensive mesh? I saw rolls of mesh on one site and posts, and also saw faux ivy screens that might make more privacy, but my biggest concern is safety, and keeping him/anything out from his side of the yard. It may sound like I'm being a nervous mom, but I have heard the screaming from outdoors at 3:30 am, and heard banging on our backdoor one night, and think he or is ex-boyfriend may have hurdled our little fence, so I really have been scared to go out. On a tight budget, is there any way that someone can build some kind of fence? We do have a fence in the backyard (the 3 ft one) so there are some posts there, but not on the area abutting his driveway, where he tore out our shrubs, and where we're always finding trash and cigarette butts. Why do the things little kids say not matter?

AWOL from basic training?

Im a 23 year old female. I joined the army and during week 4 of training while i was in the gas chamber i was struck in the chest multiple times by the drill sgts. For the following next few days i went to sick call and complained of chest pains pressure the whole shebang. Anyhowm everytime i went they gave me medicine for allergies because apparently fort jackson is known for pollen. So one night i could no longer bare it i was on the floor screaming in pain and buzzing the drill sgts with no answer. I set off the alarms and ran downstairs banging on the ds door and he came out cursing and yelling. He eventually brought me to the hospital and i sat in a chair for 11 hrs before a doctor even saw me. he again prescribed ibuprofen and clairitin and i begged for bloodwork. he agreed, withing 45 minutes i was in an ambulance off post where i stayed for 5 days. I had damage consistent with a heartattack and a cardiac contusion (bruise on my heart) myocarditis. I also had Supraventricular tachycardias while i was in the hospital. So when i was discharged the army sent me home on 30 days con leave. When i got back my company was about to graduating i was forced to do everything with them although i wasnt feeling up to it and i was not training. i had to do shitty details but nothing compared to when we got switched over to the holdover company. We were in the scorching heat painting sweeping the concrete policing the hills it was ridiculous from sun up to sun down we were working. One day i had BAD chest pain so i went to sick call. Although i was on a dead mans profile and although i was awaiting a discharge and i told her of my pains and previous history she took me off profile and sent me on my way with an icepack and ibuprofen. when i got back to the company i snapped, i put on my civilians and took off running. Ive now been home for almost 45 days. Im scared to go back because i dont want jailtime, what should i do?

Why won't my parents accept that I'm gay?

I came out a couple months ago I would say probably 3 or 4 months. They freaked out for a week then they just completely started ignoring it. Hey guys, okay, so lately i've had this weird paranoid feeling of going out anywhere alone. Don't get me wrong, i can be in places by myself, but with people around me if that makes sense, but i'm talking about, say, going for a nice walk to the park or some place where there is no witnesses to hear my screams if somebody were to attack me. I guess all those stories you hear about women being attacked, raped and/or murdered have made feel like its going to happen to me. My mom told me that whenever i want to go for a walk, and she can't cos shes too busy, to take my dog. That he'll know what to do if anything were to happen. Hes a 2 year old, male bordercollie, and hes my best friend. He knows me as his master, nobody else in my family. He'll be sleeping, and before i hear a noise or somebody talking, hes already heard it and is alert. Sometimes he does this little 'buff' sound (sooo cute). He won't let ANYBODY trespass on our property, he will go mad. When somebody goes past our house, he'll yip a couple times, and that's it. When a visitor comes to the door, and i tell him its alright, he'll settle completely down, but only if its a woman. If its a man, he will just bark himself out, whimper, and keep smelling them (mainly near their crotch, soooo embarrasing), while i have him by the collar and pull him back. Sometimes he shows his teeth. Only with men. In the past i've taken him for walks, and he'll be all friendly to people, as they past us, but then another person who looks like an ordinary person like the others that met my dogs approval walks by minding his own business, and he'll get so upset and look at me, and whimper, and then keep looking back as we walk on. Hes the only dog i've had so i have no idea why he behaves like this or whether its normal. But the fact of the matter is he has never bitten somebody, and so in the back of my mind, i think he'll never actually do it, if it ever comes time for him to protect me. Its like i'll feel more at ease, if he accidently did bite somebody to protect me, there would be that re-assurance, but of course by him biting somebody, it would mean he would be taken from me.

Matt, I have never had the pleasure of cleaning one of those things but I have polished just about everything else. There was an excellent product called Haggertys 100, but now I can only get that through a jewelers web site and it is pretty expensive. I have though found another product available in supermarkets where I live. It is made by Wright's and is just called Wright's Brass Polish. It polishes pewter, brass, copper, chrome,bronze. I have even used it on silver which I know I shouldn't have,but it didn't hurt it or take any of the silver off. Now I know the Haggerty's 100 will polish some finishes right off so if you do come across it, read the label carefully before buying it. I remember in the instructions for that product, guns were listed as one of the things it did polish. So hope these helped.

My oldest aunt is the one who always took my grandma to the dr appointments. since I am currently unemployed (by choice). I have decided to go along with them to dr appointments. I was once a translator for drs & patients for after hr services. my aunt thought it would be a good idea if i started to come to all the appt. i didnt mind i like helping my grandma & anyone who needs translating. by the time of my gmas surgery they needed someone who spoke english&knew my gmas med hitory. all my aunts & uncles & my grandpa dont speak english. and my grandma is 82 & illiterate. so i said i can go in with her. i was with her for about 3 hrs translating, signing papers and explaining things to my gma. was with her in preop room.saw her go in the operating room. surgeon called me on cell to let me know how everything went when surgery was over etc. ive been following up with the drs. i am practically the only person who knows dr names and her rx info. there were some complications in my gmas surgery & in order to save her life they had to put in a IVC filter. i explained to my gma and she said its fine sweety sign...i did. everything was a success! I noticed my uncle the youngest of my gmas children started acting distant & stopped talking to me. today he came to my house being quiet and ok... then out of nowhere... he starts telling my aunt and my mom that they should have someone responsible making decisions for their mother! my mom got mad since im her daughter & was like no one is making decisions for mom she is. he said no! one of you guys should be taking care of her.... not someone who is going to change their mind and not be responsible. i said your talking about me and i dont make decisions for my grandma i explain things to her she decides 4 herself... he was like no you make decisions for her. tell her what she needs and what she has to do. it got heated up he started calling names & pointing fingers.i honestly only tell my grandma what the doctors tell her to do... which is to walk & not be laying down all the time because she needs the exercise.i tell her to eat because she doesn't really eat. i tell her to wear her back brace. etc. my gma doesnt want to she says shes too weak still ITS BEEN OVER A MONTH... she refuses to do any exercises complains about pains & doesnt want to leave the house without her wheelchair. BUT she tells my uncles & doctors she feels no pain at all that shes fine now & exercises & lies pretty much. i tell her doctors what she tells me.dr said its common her old age scared of getting sent back to hospital but they have ordered transportation for her so she doesnt get up from wheel chair when going to dr appts & i dont drive so its easier for me to go w/her & not depend on anyone giving us a ride. he volunteered (my uncle)to help her & encourage her to walk by coming over every day. something he hasnt done i told him he can but that the physical therapist was going to start coming soon bcus thats something the surgeon ordered in home physical therapy. Look people say don't wash your coins or don't clean your coins, when you see coins that are .9999 there are only 2 types of coins that are that fine of silver, Rounds, or Bullion coins i don't think there was coins ever that pure since probably the silver age that was long long time ago. But i can say yours could be either bullion or a round and those are safe to clean, if its brownish you can try baking soda its a very fine abrasive and it makes any dirty silver coin look nice and shinny silvery look again. But you know if its like really tarnished like black kinda tarnish theres a trick i learned on youtube. All you need to do is in a glass bowl use really hot water put a aluminum into the hot water with salt and baking soda, put the coin in and it will be tarnish free. Now this is for the black tarnish if its brown kinda thing its usually dirt or oil from your hand and not really silver tarnish but to prevent this i always wear a cotton gloves when handling my silver because oil from hand is slightly acidic and isnt good for coins at all. Now your coin won't devalue because if you collect silver the silver value is always there, just remember this. Silver is always silver doesnt matter how old or how bad of a condition is it will always retain your wealth. But still its better to be proactive so it doesnt have to be washed as much.

Baby Bird Drama!!!!!?

I found a baby bird on the ground, my friend suggested we leave there in case the parents came for it. So I sat near by and watched, the mother never came and the bird had started to breath heavily under the hot sun. I took it home fed it some formula and strips of cloth for it to nest on. I found out that it's a baby Raven, most likely, and I called shelters, but all say they won't have enough time to put in the bird to have it live{ aka. they prob just put it to sleep}. I had a parrot for two years who died on sunday night. Prior to this he was diagnosed with a wound problem (down below), which he kept picking on and thus had to wear on a collar to prevent this. He seemed his usual self, talking and quite content. However my parrot was found at the bottom of his cage. He was struggling to breathe, i tried to give him water. But all i heard was a scream and than instantly he died. Now i have been told there was a fly killer room fragrance, that placed near him. Could this have killed him. Im so confused and upset.

I have a tumor on my spine so I take pain meds. My little sister is dying from Leukemia and I have to drive about 12 hours just to see her. The trip has been really tough. It was my understanding that when you sign a contract with a pain mgmt doc that you can still get meds from the ER. Since I've had to drive a lot with my sister my pain is worse and I've been getting bad headaches. I've been to the ER several times. So I go to the ER and I get a prescription. I was shocked when I got a prescription for #15 10mg percocets and flexeril. I got it legitimately through the ER doctor. Now this doctor is saying that he didn't write the prescription. What is even more crazy is that the doctor to which the prescription was written from was a doctor that was 2 hours from where I got the prescription. I'm being told that this doctor isn't an ER doctor but rather an oncologist. Let me remind you that my sister lives 12 hours away. I've never even been to the city that the doctor practices in. I might think I were just plain crazy except my husband was with me. Now my pain mgmt doctor is going to fire me and my record is tarnished. What should I do?

Poems you can almost sing are poems that sway - but be impeccable and study iambs - not a particularly necessary advice but the knowledge of iambs may help a lot. And don't forget to read about meter, rhyme, and rhythm (as I've said previously). Judging from your two postings, I believe that you will find rhythm easy and fun to learn.

Is this lucid dreaming ?

I often go into a dream state then wake up but realise I'm not as I can't move, during this time I'm in my own surroundings but I can hear voices or music or see something odd in it. I always try to escape the dream by shaking my head and closing my eyes, even if I am paralysed. I always remember them very clearly. Here are some examples: I was in a normal dream in my school building, it was very foggy and at night time. I remember walking round a corner and thinking please dont let anyone be round that corner and then a giant ghost like man came stomping round the corner following me and I woke up. I was in my own surroundings and couldnt move, I then heard screaming and swearing at me, I tried shaking my head to get out of it and a few minutes later I woke up. A recent one I had was I was in my own surroundings again but I could see my mum standing and staring at me, it was slightly blurry and i couldn't see mum clearly. I even remember one when I was 5! I was in my own surroundings again and this lion toy on my floor grew bigger and turned alive, an Angel then turned it back to original state, I woke up and the lion toy was on the floor. Another one I had was I was in my own surroundings and I could hear creepy noises, I peeked from the covers and saw the grim reaper getting closer and closer as I looked, I then woke up. These are just some examples, I have had plenty more! Are these lucid dreams?

Has anyone else's relationship ever ended this badly?

My ex boyfriend and I were best friends when he was married and we overlapped a bit (I know bad). Then he left his wife of 25 years to be with me properly and we had a brilliant relationship, very affectionate, loving, sexual, best friends, did lots together plus gave each other space etc. He found out a few months ago that she was going to move his daughter 500 miles away in July. It was forgotten about and we stayed happy and were due to go to the US on a road trip from Scotland (me, my son and my ex) in September. Everything was still great. He left my house for work in the morning as usual, the usual cuddle and kiss and see u later. 5 hours later he phoned and shouted at me that it was over (he has never shouted at me) and that he didn't see a future. I immediately thought is it because she is taking his daughter away. I asked to meet and talk and we did and he was just aggressive again which upset me to the point I told his ex about our relationship. Next thing he changed and said the reason was that he still had some feelings for his ex and was going to try get her back. A couple of days later he came back with more of my things and was much calmer, so we wished each other the best, I said i hoped he would get what he wished for, that I missed having him around after 4 years of friendship then relationship then we had a cuddle which was nice as it felt easier to move on. Then I had a pregnancy scare and told him, he insisted on coming over to talk saying we could get back together, Turns out he had her hiding in his car and after he left she came battering on my door and forced her way into my house screaming at me. She told me she made him bring her if he had a hope in hell of getting her back then she said she hasn't told him but she will never take him back she is just stringing him along. Two days later I went to his to try make peace and say goodbye nicely so as not to tarnish all our good memories with all the recent stuff (because we were best friends and of course I still care and wanted to wish him well) and he opened his door, screamed "no" and locked it. I tried to talk to him through it to say I only wanted to make peace and part nicely as we had never hurt each other. Then he says "I've phoned the police to report you for stalking me", **** off", strange since he had brought her to my house and gave me hell and i had only went to see him once to make peace not argue. I panicked and left as because I work in prison and cant get in any trouble, i was devastated and then made a huge mistake of phoning the police and reported him for having two illegal guns in his house (anonymously). I regret it now as he would most definitely lose his job and may even go to jail. I wish I could take it back but the police keep phoning me and i have complained though as it was supposed to be anonymous but they are turning up at my house and everything. How the hell have we ended up being so hateful to the point of calling the police on each other knowing we would lose our jobs, when only 2 weeks ago we were happy as larry and everything was rosy in the garden. Is this all because she told him that she was leaving the country with his daughter because he swore on his kids life to me only two days before he left that he never wanted his ex back. now he hates my guts and I cant understand how so quickly. I am terrified he has been arrested for having these weapons as I know he only had them as souvenirs from years ago. also he only left the army 2 months ago after 26 years so i don't know is he is a bit depressed. I don't want to be thinking he hates me for the rest of my life as we were best friends before and i don't want him to get in trouble, even though he does have them i should never have told on someone I claimed to love, no matter how much he hurt me i could have ruined his life. Football fans, whats the first game you remember ever watching?

The first game I remember was being at the Oklahoma-Nebraska game in 2000 when I was six, Neb was ranked #1 and OU beat them 31-14, and the stadium went nuts. Sooners went on to win the national championship. Been a fan ever since. First pro game I remember watching on TV was a Ravens game during their Super Bowl year, I was a Ravens fan for a year or so before I switched to the Cowboys, they were on TV a lot more. Please help, big problems with my family?

I got into an argument with my mom last night and I cussed, but not at her. I told her at the end that none of those were directed towards her. she went and told my dad I cussed at her. so I come home and he says "heard you were arguing with your mom" I said "yes we had a little argument" he said "and you cussed?" I was honest and said "yeah I did" and here is where it gets bad. he said "I really want to punch you right now. im shaking, that's how bad I want to hit you. come on, put your crap down and do something so I pop you. you know you're a miserable person to be around." then he went on to call me a whiny b. i. t. c. h. i have to move with these people I call parents and live with them for another year. im only 17. they are uprooting me from all the people I love and making me start senior year at al new school all because I have a girl that im in love with who is 19. she likes me too. after all the stress from my family screaming at me and threatening me for the past six months, I want to just end it. the only reason im even typing this is because the 12 gauge in my closet doesn't have any shells left. I don't even want help with my family because im done with them. after at least the last 5 years of verbal abuse, I hate them. I don't regret saying any of this. if I am to live through this, I will never talk to them again.

My Dad Has a Really Bad Temper?

Lately my dad has been insulting me! Mostly because I'm slow! I don't think I'm slow though, I just take my time, I don't have to hurry unless it's something serious, right? And yesterday he said he hated the smell of my hair! he said it was the shampoo I've been using, and he told me to stay away from him! ever since Fall 2010, he has been acting really mean to me. Low milk supply..help please?

I was wondering if I could increase my milk supply by hand expressing and pumping. I get less than half an ounce. I stopped breastfeeding for a month (had planned to stop, but have changed my mind), and it is very low and my 6 month old daughter will not nurse at all. She just yells and screams. I give up on nursing, but I want to continue to give her breastmilk 'til she is atleast one years old. Any suggestions on increasing my milk supply without nursing??
